Second Term Activity

Second Hand Books

March 2022

This year students in Years 1-6 could purchase a Book Week mini pack for just 3 euros. This included a book-related memento, a photo of them in costume during book week activities and a 2nd hand-reading book from Cherry Tree Bookswap. Cherry Tree Bookswap is a charitable organisation that donates all its fundraising to local charities. This organisation also emphasises the importance of re-using books and saving them from landfills for a better, more pleasant environment. Taking care of books saves trees used for productisation and instils a sense of responsibility in our young students. To consolidate this and help our students, we embarked on a full-on production of handmade book sleeves, using unwanted curtains provided by parents and staff members. Moreover, staff and family members are skilled in sewing, preparing the patterns, cutting the curtains, and sewing over 400 book sleeves just in time for Book Week!
