Welcome

Welcome to Stella Maris Junior School

Stella Maris College was founded by the Brothers of the Christian Schools – De La Salle Brothers.  The Lasallian Educators at Stella Maris Junior School base their teaching and model the Gospel of Jesus Christ Faith in the Presence of God. Educators follow the five core principles of Lasallian Education –

Presence of God,

Concern for the Poor and Social Justice,

Respect for All Persons,

Quality Education,

Inclusive Community.

The Junior School Family is comprised of around 305 students and 41 staff members. Students attending Grade 2 at St Benild will continue their school years at Stella Maris Junior School in Grade 3. During these four years, we at Stella Maris Junior School do our utmost to fulfil their formative journey from an educational, creative and spiritual dimension.

In Grade 3 and Grade 4, the students are challenged academically and offered experiences to help them develop further their emotional intelligence and be able to communicate effectively.  In Grade 5 and Grade 6, further importance is given to provide a learning experience where students can collaborate, explore further their creativity, and become more responsible and independent learners.

Our Values

A Lasallian school is a Christian Catholic school and is organised around the principles and values of De La Salle. This means that each student is respected as a unique person, encouraged to grow in a community among educators, education leaders, and peers that are people of faith and zeal.  Our Ethos is very important to Lasallian Community at Stella Maris and we believe it makes us unique. We try to nurture outstanding ambassadors for the younger generation and worthy contributors to the island.

Our Ethos is very important to us and we believe it makes us unique. The young men we nurture are outstanding ambassadors for the younger generation and invaluable contributors to the local community.

Our students are encouraged to show solidarity and altruism with those in need and be responsible citizens. While learning different subjects is an important aspect of every learner's daily life, no real growth can be achieved unless the individual grows to be tolerant, respectful and loyal to the college values.

The Grounds

The Junior School grounds consist of three small pitches - 2 turf pitches and 1 Basketball pitch and one large concrete pitch.

Each class is currently assigned a pitch or part of the concrete pitch to use during break time.  This is being done to respect the Covid-19 Protocols for schools.

The Turf and Basketball pitches are used during PE Lessons.  A well-equipped PE Room is situated next to the concrete pitch.

The Chapel

The chapel represents the spiritual heart of the College.  Due to Covid-19 protocols, some physical changes had to be done to be able to cater for two classes at a time.

Weekly masses are held for each grade, with classes taking it in turns to prepare the liturgy and prayers.  The third class connects via Teams to participate from their class.

As a school, we are aware of the importance of silence and reflection in a world that is often hectic and mentally tiring.

The chapel is also a place for confession and reconciliation. Our spiritual director is present to support the students in their spiritual journey and offer his help to the families that make up the Stella Maris College community.
