The boys learnt how to pray better by learning about Pope Francis’ 5-Finger Prayer. After they discussed who and what they would pray for, the boys completed a craft to re-inforce further what they had learnt.

The boys had to pick two different coloured M & Ms and based on the colours they picked, the boys had to share two facts about themselves.

The boys compiled their own classroom dictionary to learn new vocabulary in English. They had to write words which start with various alphabet letters and the words were then shared with others. This dictionary will be kept in class for the boys to refer to.

On world down syndrome day, the boys became more aware of what Down syndrome is and what it means to have down syndrome. On this day the children also learnt to celebrate the uniqueness of different people and that we are all special in our own way.

The boys played a game of Human Bingo where they had the opportunity to learn ore about their classmates, only to realise that both their school and their very own classrooms are inclusive communities, since each member is unique and special, and loved and cared for.

The boys had the opportunity to learn about friendship and inclusion, regardless of our differences and uniqueness. Now they know that if they had to meet a Deaf friend, they can communicate using Maltese Sign Language - which is one of the official 3 languages in Malta together with Maltese and English. Special thanks to Ms Emma Ripard Xuereb from Deaf People Association Malta who took the time to teach us the signs of the Lasallian hymn 'One La Salle'. The boys also enjoyed and showed interest while practicing the alphabet in Maltese Sign Language.

Concern for the Poor and Social Justice
Grade 2 Bro Arnold
The boys learnt about the importance of giving and that giving is more important than receiving. The boys bought something from their own pocket money for the children who live at the Ursuline Creche. Three Ursuline sisters visited the school and the boys presented what they bought to the nuns. The nuns also spoke to the boys about their mission.

The boys of Grade 2 Bro Arnold had the opportunity to discuss about social justice with President Emeritus Dr Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca who willingly accepted Ms Stephanie's invitation. In groups, the boys had to reflect on different case studies and come up with possible solutions to improve situations of social injustice.

The boys watched a video about climate change and learnt about global warming. Afterwards, they carried out an experiment in relation to global warming. The boys prepared two trays with a mini-environment made from blocks. Then they put some ice cubes in each tray. The boys then covered one of the trays with a layer of plastic cling wrap. The boys had to observe and record how long it took for the ice to melt in each tray. This experiment represented the greenhouse effect.

The boys learned about climate change and the importance of recycling. They created a fun model using recyclable materials.

Following their voxpop about repect, the boys learnt that one must also respect the environment as this was mentioned in the voxpop. They planted their own sunflower seeds as a sign of commitment to respect the environment.

The boys learnt about the life of St Francis and his love for peace. They learnt that peace is a journey, through a board game they also took time to write and say prayers for peace, in the school chapel.

The boys learnt about the essential ingredients for showing respect. They marked this occasion with an R for RESPECT made out of fruit.

Throughout the past couple of weeks, boys in Grade 2 Miguel were introduced to the idea of Social Justice through a variety of activities. The boys were then asked to come up with one idea of how they think the world can be a more just (fair) place. These ideas were compiled into a booklet and today the boys presented their original work to Hon. Minister Dr Michael Falzon MP and Hon. David Agius MP in Parliament as Minister and Shadow Minister for Social Policy respectively.
