Grade 7 Live-in

Our first out of four Grade 7 Live- in’s, was held last week. As leaders of this event, we agreed to select a quiet setting for our live in. The Lasallian Retreat Centre in Mellieha welcomed us as visitors. We spent both of our 2 exhilarating days together at the centre, and outdoors in nature for fieldwork.

Our short-lived stay at the live-in included a morning meditation, football practice, a nutritious and abundant meal plan, relaxation time at the beach close by, religious reflections and a mass with adoration. The aim of the live-in set up specifically for Grade 7 students just coming up to our secondary school setting focused mostly on the Wellness of these new pupils. It was centred around improving their mental health and wellbeing through relaxation, connection, and education. Our guided retreat offered exercises and questions for processing life experiences like their talents and ambitions. It also gave our students a brief time to spend alone with God. Time for prayer was linked with time for group sharing. Students were encouraged, consoled, and inspired by their own thoughts and experiences as well as that of others.

As one of the leaders involved in this meaningful experience, I wish to highlight that the live-in was a significantly positive experience for all of us participating. It also bought us closer together as prized members of our Lasallian community. It was a wonderful opportunity to step back from the daily routine we experience at school within the educational setting, and find a moment of rest, get in touch with ourselves and each other and find contentment. Attending this live also in gave us time to focus on our challenges ahead.
