Scavenger Hunts

March 2022

Another activity that all our Year groups enjoyed was a scavenger hunt. As already stated, each year group has a theme, so all our students had the opportunity to explore these themes further through a pleasant multi-sensory experience:

Year 1s - Peter Pan. Students went through the magical adventure of Peter Pan, the Lost Boys and Tinkerbell by helping the Mermaids find lost shells, hide away the Pirate's treasure and listen to Wendy's story, all curled up with a cuddly teddy bear just like her brother Michael did in the book. They even got a sprinkling of fairy dust in the end.

Year 2s - My Granny is a Pirate. Our young ones enjoyed this book by seeking treasures for granny! Their teachers dressed up as Granny the pirate and fought away skeletons with the boys’ help.

Year 3s - The Smartest Giant in Town Our Year 3 boys dressed their teacher up as the smartest giant and went through the orange grove looking for the animals in the story and helping them out. This scavenger hunt also had an excellent moral lesson about kindness.

Year 4s - Roald Dahl Extravaganza The Year 4 students used their Learn Pads to mark the correct answers according to the clues they found. Questions varied on all of Roald Dahl's famous books. Boys who did not read any of these books got curious and made sure to do so after this scavenger hunt.

Year 5s - Horrible Histories What better way to learn all about history! These funny books are interesting enough to catch the attention of even the least interested in both books and history. Moreover, our scavenger hunt made it all the more fun with Learn Pads, multiple-choice, funny props and curious historical information that triggered the students to read more about the subject.

Year 6s - Aesop's Fables Another successful scavenger hunt where our oldest students enjoyed exploring all the fables through tangible objects and mind-boggling clues. Their Learn Pad also made it possible to take photos and solve grammatical questions.

Scavenger hunts were held in the school's beautiful orange grove, where the students could search for clues in a nicely decorated environment full of orange trees. Students were encouraged to think outside the box, solve problems and communicate with their teammates to reach their winning goals.

This learning opportunity enabled students with reading difficulties to still enjoy Book Week through visuals and tangibles. They got to experience various literacy objectives, like, spelling, letter formation and other grammar exercises like adjective use. All this, away from their usual classroom environment.
